Born January 16, 1924, Katy Jurado was one of Mexico’s greatest actress. She was one of the first Mexican and Latin American actresses to achieve success in Hollywood in the 1950s.
In 1954, she became the first Mexican actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Broken Lance, a feat that would not happen again until 2002 when Salma Hayek was nominated for Frida.
Jurado continued to work in Mexico, Hollywood, and Europe until 2002 working with people like Spencer Tracy, Marlon Brando, Luis Buñuel, John Huston, and Pedro Infante.
